On Saturday morning, Priya grabbed a cart and walked into the grocery store near her apartment. Her first stop was the produce section, where she picked out apples, spinach, and a few ripe tomatoes. She still found it funny that Americans say "cilantro" instead of "coriander leaves."
Down the next aisle, she compared two brands of pasta and checked the price per unit on the little tag below the shelf. She had a coupon for one of them, so she dropped it into her cart. Near the back, she stopped at the deli counter and asked for half a pound of sliced turkey.
When she was done, she rolled up to the checkout. The cashier scanned everything, and Priya bagged her own groceries at the self-checkout lane to save time. She paid with her debit card, took the receipt, and headed home — another ordinary errand done.
